Kenmore Washer Banging During Spin — Tub Spring and Rear Shock Repair in Jefferson Park, Denver
A customer in Denver's Jefferson Park neighborhood called because their front-load washer was banging around during operation. Cody and Shane responded to the call and opened up the machine to inspect the suspension system.
Inspection revealed that a top tub suspension spring had come off its mount. With the spring no longer supporting the tub, the tub dropped and broke a rear shock absorber. Both issues needed to be corrected before the machine could run safely.

What We Found
A washer that bangs during spin can have several possible causes — worn drum bearings, an unbalanced load, failed shock absorbers, or a displaced suspension spring. On this job, inspecting the suspension system revealed both the displaced spring and the broken shock absorber as a direct consequence of the spring failure.
When a tub suspension spring comes off its mount, the tub loses support on that side and drops. The additional stress on the remaining suspension components — in this case the rear shock absorber — can cause them to fail. That's exactly what happened here: the dropped tub broke the rear shock, which amplified the banging during the spin cycle.
The Repair
We started by reseating the tub suspension spring, returning the tub to its correct supported position. With the tub properly rehung, we then addressed the broken rear shock absorber.
The Kenmore 796.41382410 is manufactured by LG, so the correct replacement shock is an LG part. We sourced and installed part 383EER3001J — the OEM damper assembly for this machine. The part number is printed on the bag label and matches the specification for this model.
Result
After the repair, we ran the washer through diagnostics and checked its spin operation. The tub remained properly supported on its suspension spring, and the washer spun normally without going out of balance during testing.
Repair completed in one visit. Normal spin operation confirmed during diagnostic testing — no banging, no imbalance.
A Note on Kenmore and LG Parts
Many Kenmore appliances sold under the Sears brand were manufactured by other companies. The Kenmore 796-series front-load washers were built by LG. When sourcing parts for these machines, LG part numbers apply — not Kenmore-branded parts. On this job, the correct shock absorber was LG part 383EER3001J, which is the OEM damper assembly for this platform.
Knowing the actual manufacturer matters when diagnosing and sourcing parts for Kenmore appliances. Our technicians carry common LG-platform parts on the service truck, which is why we were able to complete this repair in a single visit.
