Customer Concern
The homeowner called after noticing their Kenmore dryer had developed a loud noise while running. The dryer was still operating, but the noise had become significant enough to prompt a service call. Denver Rapid Appliance Repair scheduled an inspection.
Diagnosis
The blower wheel is the component inside the dryer that moves air through the drum and out the exhaust. On this Kenmore model, the blower wheel is driven directly by the motor shaft. Inspection revealed that the blower wheel hub had cracked. The crack caused the wheel to run out of balance, which produced the loud noise during operation. The motor itself was functioning normally and did not need to be replaced.
Repair
The failed blower wheel had seized onto the motor shaft, making it impossible to separate the two components while the motor remained installed in the dryer. To work on them, the motor and blower housing were removed from the dryer together as a unit and brought out of the cabinet. Once removed, the old blower wheel was separated from the motor shaft. A new OEM blower housing assembly, part 137551110, was sourced for this repair. The packaging identifies it as the blower housing with cover and wheel. The replacement wheel was secured to the existing motor shaft, and the assembly was reinstalled in the dryer. The dryer was then reassembled.
Result
After reassembly, the dryer was tested. It operated properly and the loud noise was gone. The original motor was reused — only the blower housing assembly was replaced.
