Whirlpool Refrigerator Ice Maker & Dispenser Repair in Skyland, Denver
We were recently called to a home in Denver's Skyland neighborhood to diagnose a Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerator that had stopped making ice. The homeowner also reported that the ice dispenser would not dispense ice consistently whenever ice was available.
These symptoms can be caused by several different components, so we performed a complete diagnosis before recommending any repairs. What we found was a combination of a failed ice maker, a broken auger coupling, and a worn ice chute assembly — plus early wear on the freezer door wiring harness that we addressed preventatively. All repairs were completed in a single visit.

Initial Diagnosis
After verifying the model number, we removed the ice bucket and began inspecting the ice maker and dispenser system. Testing confirmed that the ice maker had failed and required replacement.
While disassembling the freezer door components, we continued inspecting the dispenser system to ensure there were no additional problems that would prevent the refrigerator from operating properly after installing the new ice maker.
The Repair Process
Step 1 — Verify the Model
We confirmed the model number (WRS571CIDM01) before beginning diagnosis to ensure we had the correct parts and service information for this unit.
Step 2 — Remove the Ice Bucket
With the ice bucket removed, we had clear access to the ice maker assembly and could begin a thorough inspection of the entire ice production system.
Step 3 — Inspect the Ice Maker Assembly
With the ice maker assembly fully exposed, testing confirmed the ice maker had failed and needed to be replaced. We also continued disassembling the dispenser components to check for any additional issues.
Step 4 — Replace the Ice Maker & Find Additional Problems
While removing the dispenser components, we discovered that the auger coupling had broken. The auger coupling transfers power from the dispenser motor to the ice bucket auger, allowing cubed ice to travel through the dispenser. When this part fails, the dispenser motor may operate normally but ice cannot be delivered. We also found wear in the ice chute assembly and replaced it at the same time.
Step 5 — Preventative Freezer Door Wiring Harness Repair
As part of every major ice system repair, we inspect the freezer door wiring harness located near the lower door hinge. Although the harness on this refrigerator was still functioning, it was beginning to show early signs of wear from years of opening and closing the freezer door. This is a common issue on Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerators and can eventually lead to failure of the ice maker, water dispenser, and freezer door electronics. We reinforced and protected the harness before the damage progressed further.
Step 6 — Reassemble and Test
After completing all repairs, we thoroughly tested the refrigerator to verify proper operation. The ice maker was cycling correctly and the dispenser was delivering ice without issue.

The refrigerator was restored to full working condition in a single visit:
